Frequently asked questions
-
How do I identify an animal?
Open Crittr AI, grant camera or photo library access when prompted, then capture or select a clear photo of the animal or insect. The app analyzes the image and suggests possible matches. For best results, use good lighting, keep the subject in focus, and include distinguishing features when possible.
-
Why was an identification uncertain?
Wildlife identification from a single photo can be difficult. Blurry images, poor lighting, partial views, similar-looking species, or young animals can reduce confidence. Crittr AI may show multiple possibilities or indicate lower confidence rather than guess. You can try another angle or consult a local field guide or expert.
-
Does Crittr AI replace professional wildlife advice?
No. Crittr AI is an educational and recreational tool. It does not provide medical, veterinary, pest-control, or emergency wildlife guidance. For injured animals, dangerous situations, or species that may be protected or hazardous, contact qualified local professionals or authorities.
-
Can I delete app data?
Yes. You can remove individual discoveries within the app where that option is available. To remove all app data, delete Crittr AI from your iPhone (Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Crittr AI → Delete App). If you use iCloud or Game Center features, related data may also be managed through your Apple ID settings. See our Privacy Policy for details.
-
Do I need an internet connection?
Some features may work offline when analysis runs on device. Certain actions—such as syncing via iCloud, Game Center activity, or fetching updated reference content—may require a network connection. If a feature is unavailable offline, the app will indicate that when possible.
